Cai Guo-Quian, “UMoCA” – Arte all’arte, 2001
Ponte San Francesco
Colle Val d’Elsa

Cai Guo-Quian’s project for the town of Colle Val d’Elsa consisted in building a new museum – UMoCA – under the arches of St. Francesco bridge.
UMoCA is linked with the natural, historical and cultural contest of the place and wants to start a dialogue with citizens. As all the museum also this one has a director, a manager and a staff, but doesn’t need any internal light nor conditioned air. A removable neon write with the name of the museum was created and it’s used for the exibitions.
The artist has already created other two museum in China (the SMOCA museums) and one in Japan, the DMOCA. UMoCA is the first in Europe.
